Chris and Carol Green Honored with Harambee Community Leaders Award

Chris and Carol Green receive Nguzo Saba Award for Cooperative Economics (Ujamaa)

Pennsylvania, USA --- Today, Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green, were honored at the Life Esteem Kwanzaa Festival as part of the 19th Annual Harambee Community Leaders Award Program which recognizes individuals and organizations that model one of the seven principles of Nguzo Saba.

“This has been one of the most challenging years we’ve ever faced,” Chris Green told the festival crowd. “We entered 2019 living in a hotel. Even though we were working to serve the homeless, we found ourselves homeless two times this year. Things turned around for us and our coaching business right at the end of this year, so we are especially honored for this recognition and want to express our sincere thanks to Nate and Pat Gadsden for considering us for this award.”

Hosted at the Harrisburg East Mall, the Greens were recognized for modeling the Nguzo Saba principle of Ujamaa – Cooperative Economics. Ujamaa means to build and maintain your own and support other businesses, so that we all profit together.

The Greens, who were one of eight honorees, modeled the specific characteristic of supporting area local business and community efforts, like working with the NAACP’s ACTSO program that encourages local high school students in the pursuit of their dreams. They also offered their signature CARE-Ready Training at drastically reduced rates to various organizations, clients and customers, allowing them to profit from these services; all while walking through their own personal challenges.

As affiliate members and International Statesmen with iChange Nations™, Chris and Carol Green have partnered with United Graduate College and Seminary International to offer an accelerated, ministry-accredited life coaching certification program. Their collaborative purpose and mission has been, to offer leaders, working in under-served communities, high-quality tools that empower and equip them to be more effective in their humanitarian efforts.

“We’re humbled and grateful to be honored in this way today," Carol expressed “We just can't say it enough; we’re just so thankful to have the opportunity to serve in this community.”

As the world's leading producers of CARE-Ready™ Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green teach and train community, government and education leaders, human service organizers, business visionaries, and neighborhood dreamers how to be much more effective by embracing the principles of CARE (Compassionate Accountability with Respect and Empathy) in their professional and personal lives.

Many coaching, mentoring and community outreach programs employ what is known as a "deficit model" of working with people. That's where you focus on the problems (deficits) of a person, and then apply a set of pre-determined, cookie cutter steps and treatments to address their issues. The deficit-based model is what many well-meaning Helpers use, but it rarely works long-term, leaving Helpers wondering why their clients fail to break the cycles of addiction and recidivism.

However, CARE-Ready™ Life Coaching mirrors the principles found in the proven, Best Practice strategies of Strength-based, Solution-focused models. CARE-Ready life coaches are trained to connect with people in order to build a relationship/ partnership that empowers the client; thus allowing the client to discover the solutions that will work best for them.

Also, while many coaching programs focus on how to target potential high-paying affluent clients, and high-paying speaking opportunities, the Greens train, equip and empower Care-Ready™ life Coaches, who are willing to take on the most often overlooked people of society; those who live in under-served communities, who can least afford, but benefit the most from professional guidance.

Chris and Carol Green Receive First Workforce Development Grant Payment

On November 27, 2019, I deposited a check made payable to our coaching business, issued by Dauphin County as part of a workforce development grant. We didn't write the grant, but the organization that applied for it, included our business as one of the entities that is providing training for their staff.

Every year in March and September, we pause to rehearse the prophetic words that were spoken over us and this ministry in south central Pennsylvania.

"I'm going to unlock finances through grants...." Prophetic word spoken over us in our Commissioning Service (May 30, 2004).

Every time I rehearsed the recording of that prophetic word from over 15 years ago, I always wondered how it could possibly happen since we didn't have the time or resources to do any grant writing. It never occurred to us that God could make us beneficiaries of someone else writing and receiving a grant.

So what's my point?

Don't try to figure out how God is going to fulfill His promises to you. Just continue to obey the steps He has already set before you, even if they don't make any sense at all. When God gives you a promise, you can count on it. You can live in expectation of its fulfillment; even if it takes 15 years.

And this small check was just the beginning. I took this photo in our car, sitting outside our bank. It is a reminder of a prophetic promise.

Carol and I have told our children (natural and spiritual) that they have one job after God gives a promise. That one job is to get prepared for the moment when HE opens the doors and sets them on a course to fulfill the reason He had them born into this world.

There's nothing you and I can do to make a prophecy come to pass. But we can get ready for it.

BE ENCOURAGED FAMILY - GOD'S GOT THIS!

"I learned what it really means to be a life coach,"said April Downing in her course-ending presentation. "I've been in human service for 20 years and people have always told me that I should be a life coach. This class taught me I had already been moving in the principles of life coaching."

Dolores Heyward-Ramsey shared, "I just want to thank you, Chris and Carol, for being supportive, compassionate, and for being good trainers."

"I'm excited to be able to say that today I'm a certified life coach," Tim Downing expressed. I now know what life coaching is all about."

Tanisha Bailey expressed: I really enjoyed Chris and Carol's training. It was very informative and beneficial within my present life and career goals.

The Green's CARE-Readiness Class involves 10 hours of training that walks prospective coaches through self awareness tools and the need for Intellectual Humility and Emotional Intelligence, while causing the participants to take personal inventory of one's own Wellness and Resiliency; which the Greens say, "...is absolutely necessary in order to make an impactful connection, build trust and partner with one's clients."

More CARE-Ready™ Life Coaches Certified

New Certified CARE-Ready Providers and Life Coaches from l to r
Rear: James Fountain, La-Verna Fountain
Front: Sue Wooley, Sonia Perez

Pennsylvania, USA--- Tonight, Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green certified and commissioned four more new CARE-Ready Providers and Life Coaches into their respective communities.

This was a very special class," said Carol Green. "They each brought very unique perspectives and experiences to our discussions. The vast wealth of knowledge, from many years in human service and education, was very evident in every session."

"This was some good stuff," said James Fountain in his course-ending presentation. In openly admitting that his wife had 'dragged' him to the class, he added, "This works. This stuff works. I thank the Greens for bringing a positive message."

La-Verna (James' wife) shared, "I wanted to purposefully put myself in the role as student to continue to learn and do it together with my husband, and experience it together with people who we trusted. I had heard from people who I respect greatly, that they enjoyed this course so much that I knew it was our time to come. When I listened to the people who I respected their opinion and they told me how much it impacted their lives, I said okay. I want to acknowledge that and I thank you for that."

Sue Wooley expressed: Thank you again for a most enjoyable and growth-enhancing learning experience!

Sonia Perez said, "While I was in the class I began to see and understand why it (helping people) was such a burden on me to carry it all. And it's not for us to carry. We guide them for them to find out their own life plan. We walk with them and we lead them, but we don't solve it for them. I was a miss-solve-it all. And that's something I had to break."

The Green's CARE-Readiness Class involves 10 hours of training that walks prospective coaches through self awareness tools and the need for Intellectual Humility and Emotional Intelligence, while causing the participants to take personal inventory of one's own Wellness and Resiliency; which the Greens say, "...is absolutely necessary in order to make an impactful connection, build trust and partner with one's clients." CARE-Readiness training includes homework, group discussions, a final project, and an online examination to obtain one's CARE-Ready Life Coach Certification.

Since starting their Life Coach certification program in 2018, the Greens have now certified and launched 59 life coaches.

Pennsylvania, USA--- Tonight, Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green certified and commissioned four new CARE-Ready Providers and Life Coaches into their respective communities.

"This was an amazing class!" exhorted Carol Green, "They were resilient and persevered through six tough weeks to complete the course. They each experienced some type of personal challenge in their lives, but they kept pushing forward to attend the sessions anyway."

"I want to thank you, Chris and Carol, for actually walking in what God has called you to do. I thank God for the structure and the creativity," said Vanessa Davis during her course-ending presentation. She and her husband Ralphiel drove from Hagerstown, Maryland to attend the classes.

"I fix things. That's the way I'm wired," shared Ralphiel. "Now I've learned that I have to trust the process; I'll have to trust the tools and stay the course as we go forward."

Christina Johnson said, "I have adopted Chris and Carol as my mentors. They gave me something that I did not learn in a classroom. I even have my master degree in counseling, but they still gave me something that I didn't learn in a University."

Georgenna Washington summed up the unanimously agreed greatest take-away lesson for all of the students when she said, "This course was so amazing. I learned that sometimes I need to step aside and allow people their own journey, and walk WITH them and not FOR them."

Introducing the CARE Ready™ Concept to Reentry Supporters

Chris and Carol Green address audience at the Sound Community Solutions Open House Event

Pennsylvania, USA --- Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green, were among several speakers at today's Open House Event at Sound Community Solutions hosted by Vladimir Beaufils. SCS is primarily known for its reentry work with those coming out of prison. In this event, they highlighted their work by presenting testimonials and providing a tour of their newest facility.

"We wanted to add our congratulations and support of the tremendous work that is being done here at SCS," stated Carol Green. "We are especially honored to partner with this incredible organization. Our small part in this massive work has been in providing what we call, CARE-Ready™ Certification and Training for the staff and mentors of SCS and human service providers in this region.

When we met Vladimir, a little over a year ago, we had no idea the powerful connection we were making at that time. We sat in his office and shared our journey and a little bit about our specialized brand of life coaching.

Vladimir not only brought us in to train his staff and mentors, but he opened up his facility for us to run our training throughout the year for other individuals and organizations that requested life coach certification."

During their brief presentation Chris Green explained the concept of CARE Ready Coaching and Responding to an audience that included State Representative Patty Kim and newly appointed Board of Pardons Secretary, Brandon Flood.

"CARE-Readiness is a more responsive approach to the world of mentoring and coaching people," Green shared.  "We refer to our certified life coaches and mentors as CARE-Ready™ Responders and CARE-Ready™ Life Coaches because they are trained to offer (the CARE acronym) Civility/ Compassion, Awareness/ Accountability with Respect and Empathy in their work. They are equipped with the right tools to ask the right questions, in guiding someone to their life's answers."

Chris went on to express that many coaching, mentoring and community outreach programs employ what is known as a "deficit model" of working with people. That's where you focus on the problems (deficits) of a person, and then apply a set of pre-determined, one size fits all, cookie cutter steps and treatments to address their issues.

"This is why we appreciated the opportunity to partner with SCS," said Chris Green. "They understood that the deficit-based model is what many professionals and well meaning people-helpers use, but it rarely works long-term, leaving them wondering why their clients fail to break the cycles of addiction and recidivism."

According to Chris and Carol Green, CARE-Ready Certification and Training mirrors the principles found in the evidence-based strategies of Strength-based, Solution-focused practices.

"Our Coaches and Responders are trained to connect with people in order to build a relationship/ partnership that empowers the client," Carol told an audience comprised of some of South Central Pennsylvania's most influential leaders. "This model allows the client to discover the solutions that will work best for them."

She added, "While many life coaching programs focus on teaching coaches how to target potential high-paying affluent clients, and high-paying speaking opportunities, we train, equip and empower coaches to become Care-Ready Providers, who are willing to take on the most often overlooked people of society; those who live in under-served communities who can least afford, but benefit the most from professional guidance."

The Green's CARE-Ready Life Coaching Class involves 12 hours of training that walks prospective coaches through self awareness tools and the need for Intellectual Humility and Emotional Intelligence, while causing the participants to take personal inventory of one's own Wellness and Resiliency; which the Greens say, "...is absolutely necessary in order to make an impactful connection, build trust and partner with one's clients."

CARE-Ready certification and training includes homework, group discussions, a final project, and an online examination to obtain one's CARE-Ready Life Coach Certification.

The Greens concluded their presentation with an invitation, "We are formally inviting anyone that would like see CARE-Ready Training in action, to attend tonight's session. If you like what you see and love what you experience, you can sign up after the session.

And even if you don't enroll immediately, at least you can experience, first hand, one of the training programs that Sound Community Solutions is supporting and promoting that helps providers, coaches, mentors, case workers, outreach organizations, churches, businesses, and neighborhood dreamers who are seeking to positively change the lives of those in our community, who are seeking a fresh start and a second chance."

Featured in Project: CommUNITY News TV Spotlight

Pennsylvania, USA — Community Life Coach Carol Green was featured in a special television news spot about a local Emergency Shelter that is working on a new facility that will be a one-stop shop for services. The nonprofit organization is renovating the former Unitarian Church on Market Street in Harrisburg, into what it calls a Community Connection Center for Allison Hill.

It means a lot to Carol Green, who grew up in the neighborhood with a single mother.

"There was no one in the community that came alongside and walked us through," she said.

On Tuesday, Shalom House officials gave the secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services a tour, showing off what will be the Capital Area Head Start Program and a transitional living area.

For Green, it's not just about the services that will be offered. It's more about how it makes the family feel.

"You're not just a number. You're not just another person who does not have," Green said.

Officials with Shalom House said the cost to purchase and renovate the building will be about $2 million. About half that amount has been raised so far.

Carol and Chris Green have been partnering with Shalom House since the fall of 2015, providing staff and life coaching support and training that will continue in the new facility.

After working through five weeks (10 hours) of instruction, coursework, and group discussions, the newest CARE-Ready Life Coaches successfully passed an online exam, submitted their personalized life coaching field manuals, and made oral presentations to express how they were each going to meet the challenges of implementing their coaching models in the community.

"We learned so much from this powerful group of human service experts," Carol Green revealed. "Any one of them could have facilitated this class, based on their years of experience and education, but they were each willing to display intellectual humility and receive different or expanded perspectives on how to connect with people. They were willing to receive more in their tool kits."

Comments from the student's Course Evaluation included:
  • "Absolutely excellent and professional course taught by an inspirational couple."
  • "This was amazing and life changing. Very impactful and valuable tools and resources to use in the future; not just for my clients, but for myself."
  • "This course was very informative and educational. Excellent!"
  • 'Enjoyed this class. Looking forward to connecting others to this training."
  • "Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us. I know this is a work in progress for me."
  • "I highly recommend this training!"

Many coaching, mentoring and community outreach programs employ what is known as a "deficit model" of working with people. That's where you focus on the problems (deficits) of a person, and then apply a set of pre-determined, cookie cutter steps and treatments to address their issues. The deficit-based model is what many well-meaning people-helpers use, but it rarely works long-term, leaving Helpers wondering why their clients fail to break the cycles of addiction and recidivism.

However, CARE-Ready Life Coaching™ mirrors the principles found in the proven, Best Practice strategies of Strength-based, Solution-focused models. CARE-Ready coaches are trained to connect with people in order to build a relationship/ partnership that empowers the client; thus allowing the client to discover the solutions that will work best for them.

Also, while many coaching programs focus on how to target potential high-paying affluent clients, and high-paying speaking opportunities, the Greens train, equip and empower Care-Ready Life Coaches™, who are willing to take on the most often overlooked people of society; those who live in under-served communities, who can least afford, but benefit the most from professional guidance.

We Stopped Singing Songs to Heavy Hearts

Christopher G. Green (D.Hon.Causa)

I am reminded of a scripture that I read one morning, just before we held our first public gatherings in Harrisburg, PA.  It was the fall of 2004 and every morning, at around 5:30AM, I would go to our facility in Uptown Harrisburg to pray. I was desperately seeking for wisdom in how to reach out in what was a foreign land for me.

After serving for 17 very successful years in my home church, I was keenly aware that I would need a new strategy in this new season and new region of the country. I will never forget this simple, yet profound passage from Proverbs 25:20,

"Like one who takes away a garment in cold weather, And like vinegar on soda, Is one who sings songs to a heavy heart." ---(NKJV)

"Like one who takes off a garment in cold weather, or like [a reactive, useless mixture of] vinegar on soda, Is he who [thoughtlessly] sings [joyful] songs to a heavy heart." ---(AMP)

I recall how I first shared this word with our team. I didn't quite know how to implement it, accept to tell them that we would change our strategy. We would no longer be placing emphasis on the typical church gathering. Instead we would place more emphasis on prayer and teaching to bring healing to heavy hearts.

This scripture had literally snatched away all of the strategies that worked for us in our home city. God was clearly telling me that if we tried to do what worked before, we would be like those who were taking away garments in cold weather.

Our current strategy would be like pouring vinegar on a substance called nitre. Vinegar dissolves the nitre, and makes it useless and ineffectual. Our method would make our efforts useless. We would not be comforting the lost and hurting. Instead, we would be thoughtlessly agitating them and making things worse.

It took several months and years for us to understand the weight of that scripture. As individuals and families began to attend, each person came with severe damage in their hearts and homes. Due to our change in strategy, we did not always start our sessions with joyful songs (praise and worship). Many traditional church goers struggled with this because they had always been taught, according to Psalm 100:4 that we must "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise."

But, something amazing happened as we followed the wisdom of that scripture. We found that when it came to heavy hearts, if we jumped right into a group discussion surrounding the issues of life, that the joyful songs came forth in the midst of their healing process.

Sometimes we simply started our gatherings with prayer, but by the time we came to the end of our sessions, we would somehow end with joyful songs. We found that when we started with conversation or even prelude music that spoke to the hurting souls, that it was like GIVING them warm garments on a cold day.

We look back over the years and we are amazed at how accurate that simple scripture was for our strategy in this community, and how appropriate it is for many devastated families across this nation, today. This Proverbs 25:20 understanding has forced us to stop following formulas and church traditions that no longer work.

We are moving into the new seasons with great excitement and anticipation. Now we know how to better describe our work. We are a ministry that prepares and trains Believers to wisely bring healing to heavy hearts and homes.

We now have open doors to work with a local employment service, a women's shelter, and a drug/alcohol addiction recovery center. We are teaming up with intercessors for monthly corporate prayer gatherings that will give us the opportunity to collectively stand in the gap for this city, region and state.

Many of the community outreach efforts in our inner cities have been established by Believers. Most of them are looking to the Church to supply the volunteers and resources to help them reach the lost in their neighborhoods. We believe that we are one of those ministries that is called to raise up and train Believers who can serve with various community outreach efforts. We don't need to start new community outreaches. All we need to do is prepare people of faith to go and bring aid to the places that are already on the front lines.

One of the prayers that was spoken over us, when we were sent to Harrisburg in 2004, was that we would strengthen that which was already built. So, we were not sent to Harrisburg to start anything new. We were sent to build people, so they could be released to serve households, neighborhoods, ministries and outreach efforts that have already been established.

From year to year we are moving forward in the zeal and excitement in which we approached our assignment way back in 2004. We are seeking God for His wisdom in how to minister to heavy hearts. And whatever HE speaks and however HE tells us (through Holy scripture) to do it, we will obey HIS word.

We look forward to singing songs to joyful hearts!

Chris Green
