Milestone: Certified First Distance-Learning Student

Sharmee Pratt - Certified CARE-Ready™ Life Coach

Pennsylvania, USA ---- C and C Connections certified the first distance-learning student to complete its online CARE-Ready Coach Certification Program. This distinguished accomplishment was made by Sharmee Pratt, a resident of Hannibal, Missouri.

"My desire was to achieve certification in a field that I have already been operating in over the last few years," explains Sharmee. "I am currently active in Christian ministry and have been over the last 4 years."

When she enrolled in April of 2019, she came to the program with experience working with women from various walks of life, including homeless women, those with chemical dependency, and stay-at-home moms.

"We have history with Sharmee," reflects Carol Green "We were associate pastors in a local church in St. Louis, MO over 20 years ago, and she was a member of that same church. She reconnected with us almost a year ago and even at that time she expressed a desire for a deeper understanding of the necessary skill-sets to achieve an even better way of doing things."

Sharmee has traveled around the United States as well as out of the country to help implement Godly principles in the lives of others. She's also written 6 books in which she teaches both men and women how to grow in Christ.

"We were honored that such a special woman and friend chose our CARE-Ready Coach Certification program to enhance her work, ministry and outreach," Chris Green concludes. "She was a highly motivated student and advocate for our program."

As affiliate members and International Statesmen with iChange Nations™, Chris and Carol Green have partnered with United Graduate College and Seminary International to offer an accelerated, ministry-accredited life coaching certification program. Their collaborative purpose and mission has been, to offer leaders, working in under-served communities, high-quality tools that empower and equip them to be more effective in their humanitarian efforts.

As the world's leading producers of CARE-Ready Coaches™, Chris and Carol Green teach and train community, government and education leaders, human service organizers, business visionaries, and neighborhood dreamers how to be much more effective by embracing the principles of CARE (Compassionate Accountability with Respect and Empathy) in their professional and personal lives. They LISTEN to people, LIFT people and LAUNCH people. Then they equip and empower them to do the same for others.

Many coaching, mentoring and community outreach programs employ what is known as a "deficit model" of working with people. That's where you focus on the problems (deficits) of a person, and then apply a set of pre-determined, cookie cutter steps and treatments to address their issues. The deficit-based model is what many well-meaning Helpers use, but it rarely works long-term, leaving Helpers wondering why their clients fail to break the cycles of addiction and recidivism.

However, CARE-Ready Coaching™ mirrors the principles found in the proven, Best Practice strategies of Strength-based, Solution-focused models. CARE-Ready coaches are trained to connect with people in order to build a relationship/ partnership that empowers the client; thus allowing the client to discover the solutions that will work best for them.

Also, while many coaching programs focus on how to target potential high-paying affluent clients, and high-paying speaking opportunities, the Greens train, equip and empower Care-Ready Providers and Coaches™, who are willing to take on the most often overlooked people of society; those who live in under-served communities, who can least afford, but benefit the most from professional guidance.

We Stopped Singing Songs to Heavy Hearts

Christopher G. Green (D.Hon.Causa)

I am reminded of a scripture that I read one morning, just before we held our first public gatherings in Harrisburg, PA.  It was the fall of 2004 and every morning, at around 5:30AM, I would go to our facility in Uptown Harrisburg to pray. I was desperately seeking for wisdom in how to reach out in what was a foreign land for me.

After serving for 17 very successful years in my home church, I was keenly aware that I would need a new strategy in this new season and new region of the country. I will never forget this simple, yet profound passage from Proverbs 25:20,

"Like one who takes away a garment in cold weather, And like vinegar on soda, Is one who sings songs to a heavy heart." ---(NKJV)

"Like one who takes off a garment in cold weather, or like [a reactive, useless mixture of] vinegar on soda, Is he who [thoughtlessly] sings [joyful] songs to a heavy heart." ---(AMP)

I recall how I first shared this word with our team. I didn't quite know how to implement it, accept to tell them that we would change our strategy. We would no longer be placing emphasis on the typical church gathering. Instead we would place more emphasis on prayer and teaching to bring healing to heavy hearts.

This scripture had literally snatched away all of the strategies that worked for us in our home city. God was clearly telling me that if we tried to do what worked before, we would be like those who were taking away garments in cold weather.

Our current strategy would be like pouring vinegar on a substance called nitre. Vinegar dissolves the nitre, and makes it useless and ineffectual. Our method would make our efforts useless. We would not be comforting the lost and hurting. Instead, we would be thoughtlessly agitating them and making things worse.

It took several months and years for us to understand the weight of that scripture. As individuals and families began to attend, each person came with severe damage in their hearts and homes. Due to our change in strategy, we did not always start our sessions with joyful songs (praise and worship). Many traditional church goers struggled with this because they had always been taught, according to Psalm 100:4 that we must "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise."

But, something amazing happened as we followed the wisdom of that scripture. We found that when it came to heavy hearts, if we jumped right into a group discussion surrounding the issues of life, that the joyful songs came forth in the midst of their healing process.

Sometimes we simply started our gatherings with prayer, but by the time we came to the end of our sessions, we would somehow end with joyful songs. We found that when we started with conversation or even prelude music that spoke to the hurting souls, that it was like GIVING them warm garments on a cold day.

We look back over the years and we are amazed at how accurate that simple scripture was for our strategy in this community, and how appropriate it is for many devastated families across this nation, today. This Proverbs 25:20 understanding has forced us to stop following formulas and church traditions that no longer work.

We are moving into the new seasons with great excitement and anticipation. Now we know how to better describe our work. We are a ministry that prepares and trains Believers to wisely bring healing to heavy hearts and homes.

We now have open doors to work with a local employment service, a women's shelter, and a drug/alcohol addiction recovery center. We are teaming up with intercessors for monthly corporate prayer gatherings that will give us the opportunity to collectively stand in the gap for this city, region and state.

Many of the community outreach efforts in our inner cities have been established by Believers. Most of them are looking to the Church to supply the volunteers and resources to help them reach the lost in their neighborhoods. We believe that we are one of those ministries that is called to raise up and train Believers who can serve with various community outreach efforts. We don't need to start new community outreaches. All we need to do is prepare people of faith to go and bring aid to the places that are already on the front lines.

One of the prayers that was spoken over us, when we were sent to Harrisburg in 2004, was that we would strengthen that which was already built. So, we were not sent to Harrisburg to start anything new. We were sent to build people, so they could be released to serve households, neighborhoods, ministries and outreach efforts that have already been established.

From year to year we are moving forward in the zeal and excitement in which we approached our assignment way back in 2004. We are seeking God for His wisdom in how to minister to heavy hearts. And whatever HE speaks and however HE tells us (through Holy scripture) to do it, we will obey HIS word.

We look forward to singing songs to joyful hearts!

Closing 2018, Certifying CARE-Ready Life Coaches at Sound Community Solutions

Giving words of gratitude and appreciation to the new CARE-Ready Life Coaches

Pennsylvania, USA ---Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green, concluded the year of 2018 by commissioning seven CARE-Ready Life Coaches at Sound Community Solutions, Inc. Also known as SCS, this human service organization was founded by Mr. Vladimir Beaufils (pronounced Bo - fees), who found himself in Harrisburg, PA in 1993, where he started a miraculous journey in the world of human service. He founded SCS and has since produced an army of mentors who help others who, like him, are ex-offenders or recovering addicts.

Beaufils and SCS brought the Greens on board to train seven staffers and mentors in their accredited CARE-Ready Coaching program. The sessions started in the final week of October and concluded tonight with the prospective coaches each making an oral presentation, revealing how the program had impacted them.

"My mission statement is: Focus to succeed, guiding others toward the light," Vladimir expressed to Chris and Carol Green. "You helped me to be able to do that; able to define that. You gave me new tools and refined the tools that I already had; and you gave me structure and organization. You helped me to cross the t's and dot the i's. Life Coaching will help anyone, in any place, at anytime; and you guys are amazing!"

Comments from some of the newly commissioned life coaches included:

Edith Cook: "I've been in the human service field about 18 years and what this Life Coaching class has done for me is to allow me to pace myself, have patience for my clients. You gave me tools to utilize that will help me to stay in line, so that I can be patient, so that the client's breakthrough can be more rewarding."

Carol Dibetteto: "I enjoyed this course. There were a lot of wow-factors for me. I look forward to moving into 2019 with these new sets of tools, and working with people. Thank you for bringing this to us."

Doug Hollis: "I was most impacted by the Foundational Belief system upon which this Life Coaching Program was built.

Karen Thomas: "It's been a pleasure and a blessing to be part of this certificate life coaching program, grounded in Biblical principles. I'm shifting into the position in how to approach different situations, thanks to this course. The most impactful part was the definition of life coach, because it tells me that I don't have to have all the answers in order to help someone else."

Henry Wimbush: "I learned that Life Coaching is about getting an understanding. I was most impacted by the session "A Different View of People" because it talked about being committed to people, their process and their purpose. I was also impacted by the illustration that fallen and unfruitful vines are actually lifted up. You gave me a tool kit to help me do my job better."

At the conclusion of the presentations, the Greens officially commissioned each new life coach.

Speaking at Zonta International Local Club

Chris and Carol Green answer questions about Life Coaching at Zonta Club meeting

Pennsylvania, USA  ----Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green, were the guest speakers of the November (2018) session of the local Zonta International Club. The Greens were invited by its President, Elaine Weinert because they have been providing life coaching support for the staff and residents of a local women's shelter, which the Zonta Club supports on a regular basis.

"We had an amazing session with the Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey," Carol commented, "The Club's president, Elaine Weinert, welcomed us with open arms and set the stage for us to express our passion for life coaching in under-served communities."

Carol was the main speaker while Chris handled the technical (video) aspects of the presentation. Speaking from the title 'It's All About Life Coaching', Carol chronicled the couple's lives as Life Coaches, dating back to the 1990's when they were youth leaders in St. Louis, Mo.  She built the journey around their experiences with four women: Tiffany, Carlette, Traci and Mary (Carol's mother).

Then she carried the audience through their work with Pennsylvania Career Link and Shalom House Women's Shelter.  Afterwards, Chris joined her at the podium to answer questions about the finer points of Life Coaching, explaining how they differ from other models in their CARE-Ready Leadership approach and strategy.

"This was a wonderful evening with the awesome women of Zonta International", stated Chris Green, "They are working diligently to empower women and children all over the world. They support the efforts of Shalom House, which means they have been supporting our work there as well."

CARE-Ready™ Training for Mentors Who Work with Ex-Offenders and Recovering Addicts

Pennsylvania, USA ---Chris and Carol Green continued their latest efforts to produce more CARE-Ready™ Life Coaches as they launched a new life coaching certificate class at Sound Community Solutions, Inc.

Also known as SCS, this organization was founded by Mr. Vladimir Beaufils (pronounced Bo - fees), who is an ex-drug addict who spent 4 years in prison due to his addictions. Upon release from prison, he found himself in Harrisburg, PA in 1993, where he started a miraculous journey in the world of human service. He founded SCS and has since produced an army of mentors who help others who, like him, are ex-offenders or recovering addicts.

"Vladimir Beaufils is a name that is synonymous with success, integrity, professionalism, and outstanding results based on evidence-based and proven practices," stated Coach Chris Green.

"We came across his radar at a time when he was looking to improve and add more to the training that he provides for his mentors and staff. We are extremely honored and humbled that he chose us, and trusted us to train his people in life coaching."

The mentors in this first class for SCS are far from being novice in human service. Most have been involved at some level in the field for 15, 20 and 25 years. Therefore, the Green's approach to introducing life coaching at SCS is that they aren't providing new information, but simply a new or fresh way to work with people.

The first session with the Greens always features the establishment of the foundational principles and beliefs upon which the entire coaching program is built.

"At the end of tonight's class," explains Coach Carol "we asked for 'take-aways' from each student. The response was remarkable as each mentor revealed that they were greatly impacted in the first session. We can hardly wait to begin giving them the tools that they will add to their already well-packed toolkits."

As the world's leading producers of CARE-Ready™ Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green teach and train community, government and education leaders, human service organizers, business visionaries, and neighborhood dreamers how to be much more effective by embracing the principles of CARE (Compassionate Accountability with Respect and Empathy) in their professional and personal lives. Presenting Care-Ready™ Concept at Conference on Homelessness

Chris and Carol Green define the CARE-Ready™ Responder and Coach

Pennsylvania, USA ---- The Community Conversation on Homelessness hosted Community Life Coaches, Chris and Carol Green as the featured presenters of the Care-Ready™ Responder Overview.

Conducted in the conference room of the Rock Church in Harrisburg, 16 people, representing organizations, agencies, charities, government services and churches who address human service issues from perspectives that range from education and housing, to mental wellness and trauma, gathered to learn more about the Green's concept of providing an orientation for people who desire to enter the human service field, but have no idea what that requires in the way of understanding diverse cultures and people groups.

"We realize these professionals don't need to be told how to do their jobs," explains Chris Green. "These sessions are not conducted as best practice presentations regarding their policies and procedures. We're talking about matters of the heart when it comes to connecting with people. This is all about helping every individual and leader, within the field of human service, make self examination and self discovery into the hidden or unspoken challenges that are keeping their organizations and agencies in the frustrating cycles where the outcome of most of their activities and programs are not improving."

The discussion was lively and engaging as the Greens introduced the concept of helping staffers and volunteers, within their organizations, learn how to work past the inner cultural limitations that keep them from becoming more effective helpers and CARE-Ready Responders in the community.

"The meeting has resulted in a request for us  to provide evening classes for these leaders and their staffers," Carol Green revealed. "So we're working to make that happen ASAP!"

However, CARE-Ready™ Life Coaching mirrors the principles found in the proven, Best Practice strategies of Strength-based, Solution-focused methodology. CARE-Ready™ life coaches are taught to connect with people in order to build a relationship/ partnership that empowers the client to discover the solutions that will work best for them.

Also, while many coaching programs focus on how to target potential high-paying affluent clients, and high-paying speaking opportunities, the Greens train, equip and empower Care-Ready™ Responders and Coaches, who are willing to take on the most often overlooked people of society; those who live in under-served communities, who can least afford, but benefit the most from professional guidance.

Nonprofit Nonsense: Crisis of Charities

A LinkedIN article by
Barry Kolanowski
Executive Director at Senior Services of Will County

What do you get when you do the same thing over and over and expect better results? A nonprofit organization. Welcome to the nonprofit world of causes, passions and interventions which at times may resemble more the environment of Alice in Wonderland than that of an organized effort to change the world.

A place where decisions seem upside down to logic. A place that enlists well-meaning people who have their own vision, which may be in contradiction to the compliance requirements of grants. A place where emotions make more decisions than intellect or data. A place where territories, traditions and myths still live and control many of the efforts of the agency.

Today’s nonprofit organizations are experiencing some incredible challenges, but the challenges are different this time. According to the Concord Leadership Group, which conducted a survey of nonprofits, they found that more than half admitted to not having a strategic plan and if they made the claim that they did have a plan, it wasn’t written down. The only conclusion one can have is that they are completely flying by the seat of their pants, following emotional prompting and shifting focus regularly. Always striving, but never arriving.

This lack of a vision driven organization has serious impacts on leadership selection, development and the efficiency of the operation itself. They may have a beautiful plaque on the wall carrying their mission statement, but it ends there. Actions are based on feelings and perceived trends without data to back up the consideration.

People are hired because they “fit” and have passion for the cause rather than that they bring experience to the tasks they will perform. This results in a lack of meeting objectives and incredibly wasteful costing the organization thousands of dollars and jeopardizing its very viability in the future.

This is not true of every nonprofit, but the environment is full of many that need the help of strong leadership. If you are on a board of a nonprofit or leadership role, begin by taking stock about your true mission outcomes. Then embrace the fact you can do something about your organization and its impact. There are so many voices calling for help that someone has to take the time to ask, “Is this the best way to accomplish our mission?”

“Question everything,” the philosopher, Euripides once said.  Have the capability to build an organization that will move in the direction you want it to go. All nonprofits, at some level, started out in the heart of someone and it grew into a dream. So there is nothing wrong with a dream, but in order to see it become a reality it takes not only a lot of hard work, but a willingness to accept criticism when you don’t always give others what they want.

It may seem crazy and absurd, but the nonprofit arena is also risky and exciting. Instead of making widgets or selling products that provide temporary relief, you can change a life.  Not just one life, but the generations around them and follow. That is the allure and that is what drives people to move and act despite the salary per hour.

Honoring Veterans, Gold Star Families and Military Chaplains

Photo with the Chaplain of the VFW Post,
Gene Arnold and his wife Darla.

Pnnsylvania, USA --- Chris and Carol Green gave the opening prayer for the Unity Breakfast at the Lemoyne VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 7530. This event was convened to honor all Service Men/Women and Veterans. It was also a time for honoring Gold Star Mothers, Gold Star Families, and the legacy of The Four Chaplains.

The tradition of the Gold Star began during World War II. During the early days of the war, a blue star was hung in homes and businesses to represent each living active-duty member. As soldiers were killed in combat, the gold star was superimposed on the blue star to honor the person for their ultimate sacrifice. Eventually, the mothers of those fallen service members became known as Gold Star Mothers, and their families Gold Star Families.

The Four Chaplains were remembered for their selfless service and legacy. On Feb. 2, 1943 Reverend Fox, Rabbi Goode, Reverend Poling and Father Washington passed life’s ultimate test by giving up their life jackets on a sinking ship. In doing so, they became an enduring example of extraordinary faith, courage and selflessness. Learn more about them from the website: www.fourchaplains.org.

The event was sponsored by the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship in America (PA Chapters), VFW Post 7530, and District 18 PA.

"We were honored and blessed to share the breakfast table and hear powerful stories from the Chaplain of the VFW Post, Gene Arnold and his wife Darla," Chris and Carol commented. "
Gene also leads the PA Chapters of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship in America."
